Low income kids more often overweight: Childhood obesity, poverty, poor diets

Low income kids are more often overweight than children in moderate to high income families. IANS reported Jan. 9, that childhood obesity is linked to poverty in a direct one-to-one correspondence. For every one percent drop in low income status, children and teens were 1.17 percent more likely to be overweight or obese. The University of Michigan study, published in Childhood Obesity, looked at roughly 112,000 Massachusetts students for poverty and obesity links. It correlated overall community childhood obesity rates with lower income status. Missing Allentown 5 y/o autistic boy Jayliel Vega Batista found dead, autopsied

The search for a lost Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania child with special needs ended in tragedy. NBC 10 reported on Jan.4 that the missing 5-year-old autistic boy Jayliel Vega Batista was found dead in Allentown Canal after he disappeared from a Lehigh Valley New Year's Eve party. The deceased Lehigh Valley child's body will be autopsied on Monday but authorities don't suspect foul play. They believe the autistic boy wandered off, met with an accident or fell into the waters of Allentown Canal.
